The goal of the Tri-State Tollway Roadway & Bridge Widening, from MP 10.80 (N. of 135th St.) to MP 11.17 (N. of Cal-Sag) was to rebuild the original structures of the Cal-Sag Bridge, which is more than 45 years old, and allow for an additional lane of traffic flow in each direction for future use. The project was planned so that three lanes of traffic remained open in each direction throughout construction.
