This new 49,970 sf. police station and parking garage is located in the Bridgeport neighborhood at 31st & Halsted. The garage is a two story cast-in-place, post tensioned structure. The building design is mostly steel and masonry with multiple large curtain walls. Some of the main finishes of this project include burnished block, plaster and drywall, acoustical ceilings, security ceilings, tile carpeting, resilient flooring, sports flooring, and terrazzo flooring. Housed in this building will be a community room (capacity over 100) for group functions such as CAPS (Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy), secure viewing and line-up room to protect crime victims and witnesses, separate entrances for prisoners, video arraignment room for video teleconferencing directly to courtrooms, and a fitness room for officers and personnel. Additionally inside this building will be electronic security consoles for monitoring security, a fiber optics network for a faster, more efficient 9-1-1 system, telephones and computers, and finally a “Quiet Room” where officers can relieve stress and receive counseling after a traumatic situation
